Retrospection of Communication Strategies Used in a Simulated Patient Interaction
Abstract
Simulated Patient Interactions are commonly part of healthcare training, and particularly useful when it comes to students learning to skillfully master the communication strategies and techniques for active listening. These interactions with an experienced actor nags on the limits of students learning how to optimally manage an escalating situation. Active listening pulls upon communication techniques to acknowledge the patient's existence as a speaker who is sharing their concerns and emotions. In retrospect reflection, this article explores my interaction and the communication strategies I discovered to be effective and others that may put people in a difficult situation.
